Mayo 30 x 3D Big Game
25th february 2007

As usual from Mayo, a shoot of interest and variety. I brought two cubs along and they had a whale of a time. I thought it very cruel of Harry to put defenceless Bambi with the wolf and one of the cubs burst into tears at the poor animal's predicament. Crocodile tears! All targets were at the traditional Mayo hunting distances. Some may gripe at this, but nobody came in with a maximum score!
The prizes were exceptional, with a deal of thought and hard work put in by Chris Wren and (I think), Harry. Well done, Mayo Club.

A long trip four the four of us from Dunbrody Archers but well worth the effort, especially with the excellent Healy's Hotel just down the road. The weather looked good for the time of year and we looked forward to a good day whilst we had breakfast, and so it turned out. Meeting archers we hadn't seen for a while as well as some new faces is always a pleasure and the turnout in Mayo was, as always, very good.
Mayo had gone with the 20/16, 14/10, 8/4 scoring system which took some getting used to but it does make one realise how important the first arrow score is, second and third arrows are no good if you want get a decent result. The course was up to it's usual high standard with some unusual placing of the 3-Ds and some imaginative use of the terrain making for an interesting shoot. One small criticism would be that the some of the larger targets could have been at a longer distance, but then we like long shots!
Well done to the lads and lassies of Mayo Archery Club for the effort so obviously put in to the course and for their prizes, thank you all

Our first invasion of Mayo in 07 looked like it was going to be a wet one, but the gods were good to us and sent sunshine.
The shoot itself was the usual high standard we have come to expect from the Mayo archers - tuff but fair. ( Think loving frogs and the flying duck). The range of targets were the best this side of Dublin Zoo with panther, wolverine et al. I have to say I had a ball with a good day's (pretend) hunting.
Keep up the good work.

"Firstly thanks for a really enjoyable shoot on Sunday it was one of the best I have ever been too and although frustrated I did not make my 400 score I loved it. Melody did too. I am so pleased it was a dry day and that you had such a good turnout"
David Connell, Carrowmore Archers
